Established in 1996, Disability Equality (NW) is a user-led disabled people's organisation (DPO) based in Preston. We provide a number of user-led support services and activties to enable disabled people to live independently and be happy and active in their local communities.

We focus on promoting the human rights of disabled individuals in the North West of England, particularly in Lancashire. The organization aims to empower disabled people to live independently and actively participate in their communities. Disability Equality (NW) provides a range of services, including:
  • Lancashire Independent Livign Service (LILS)
  • Direct Payment advice and support: assistance and advice for individuals managing direct payments and personal budgets.
  • Supported banking service: help with the administration of your direct payment budget including making payments to personal assistants, care agencies on your behalf.
  • Information and advice: general support for disabled individuals, including guidance on various issues they may face.
  • Community activities: events, workshops, a community lunch and cafe, and training sessions to engage and support disabled people. All delivered from our Community Hub in Preston.
  • Date and Time

    Community Hub: Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 4pm 
    All services contactable by phone/email from 9am
  • Cost / Free

    Supported banking has a current charge of £20 every 4 weeks
    All other services are free at the point of delivery
    Photocopying and printing will incur costs and donations are suggested
  • Referral Details

    The LILS service (direct payment advice and support) requires a referral from a social worker to access the full service, but initial telephone and email queries are free.
  • Additional Information

    Membership options are available on our website, which enables individuals to receive regular newsletters and updates on our organisation and services, activities and events provided.
