Barnardo's Lancashire Young Carers Service
We are commissioned through Lancashire County Council and NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board as a statutory service for Lancashire.
We asses and support young carers under the age of 18 who provide regular and ongoing care and emotional support to a family member who is physically or mentally ill, disabled or misuses substances and are significantly affected by their caring role.
Young people with caring responsibilities have all the challenges of being young, with all the responsibilities of being an adult. We support children and young people who care for and look after family members affected by health issues, disability or substance misuse. We help them look after their loved ones and give them time to enjoy their childhoods.

Additional Information
Lancashire Young Carers provides personalised support to children and young people with caring responsibilities.
We complete the statutory Young Carer’s Initial Assessment and develop a tailored support plan based on each young person’s needs. Support is mainly delivered through one-to-one sessions, focusing on reducing the impact of caring, building understanding of the cared-for person’s condition, and developing coping skills and confidence. Where appropriate, young people may also access targeted group opportunities to build peer connections. We are not a respite or childcare service and do not provide clinical or mental health interventions, but we work in partnership with other services to ensure young people can access the right support.
